Time and again I have heard and read that India is getting religiously intolerant. But let’s get into the few basics of our life and figure out if that really is the truth.
Cricket- One phenomena that unites us universally. Did any Muslim created a mayhem when Irfan Pathan was dropped from the team. He didn’t play well and so out he went and we all supported the decision. Did any Hindu not cheer Azhar when his famous flicks went for the four? When we win do we say we won because Hindu scored runs? We won, India won and that is what that matters.
Hindi Movies- Did any Hindu ever said that he will not watch a SRK movie because he is a Muslim? We all love him or for that matter hate him for what he does in the movies and not cause of his religion. Did ever a Muslim shunned AB? He is equally loved by all. We all watch movies and love and hate them for what they are and not for who made that movie, a Hindu,, Muslim or a Christian.
Do you ever read a blog thinking you are going to read it only if its written by someone of your religion? No u don’t, of course not. Do Muslims not wear there best and hug you on Diwali and do you not eat the firni of ED because you are a Hindu? The halwa of Gurdawara tastes the same, no matter who is eating it. Don’t you party like maniac on Christmas irrespective of what religion you are? I cannot make out if the colours of holi are on Hindu, Muslim or Christian. All are equally colourful on that day.
Yes there have been ugly days, Ayodhya and Godhra have happened. But did we disintegrate? Did we stop talking to our Hindu or Muslim friends? No we didn’t. The underline principle that unites us is that we still make friends and enemies on the basis of human nature and not on religious sentiments. A mean guy is mean, no matter which religion he is from and a good guy is good no matter which god he worships.
This is what has bonded out nation together for 60 years and this is what will bond us for many more to come. Here is to united India, cheerssssss !
